Marty Brennaman on Great American Ball Park
Tip of the cap to Darin Bryant for posting a link to this great video in the REDLine Facebook group.
Redsfest is here!
The biggest event of the winter is here. That’s right, kids, Redsfest starts today! Check the team’s official website for the deets and schedule. If you have never been, it is a great event. I have listed a few helpful hints below.
- Get there early.
- If you are into autographs, pay attention to the schedules on the monitors. Be prepared to run.
- Do some Christmas shopping. There will be vendors with some really cool memorabilia.
If you plan on seeing Marty Brennaman, please remember the proper protocol.
- Address him as “Your Excellence” initially, after which a simple “Sir” should suffice.
- Accept his offer of a handshake if it is presented. Otherwise, gentlemen should bow and ladies should curtsy (if they haven’t fainted).
- When leaving, back away slowly. Do not turn your back on a Brennaman.
Don’t forget to stop by the Reds Country booth, also known as a chair by the main stage at which I will be eating some LaRosa’s Pizza.
Media Edition: What will you miss during the offseason?
The Reds play their final game of the 2011 season today. Ironically, it was exactly one year ago today that Great American Ball Park erupted in celebration after Jay Bruce’s walkoff home run clinched the 2010 NL Central division championship.
Anyway, as this year comes to a close, what will you miss most during the offseason? This poll will focus on the media aspect of a game (Twitter, Facebook, FSOhio broadcast, radio broadcast, etc.).
Tony La Russa is still crying
Tony La Russa is the whiny girlfriend who will complain about you being late for dinner with her parents, then let it go only to bring it up again a month later. He has started to cry again about Marty Brennaman’s accurate description of his team last month.
Here is La Russa’s latest tantrum from stltoday.com.
“There are people in that organization, from the top – (Bob) Castellini, Walt (general manager Walt Jocketty), Jerry Walker, to the players who were here – they know how we compete,” La Russa said. “If you win, you shut your mouth and enjoy it. When you lose, you tip your cap.
“The guys who are in the best position (to say anything) are the owner (Castellini) and the general manager. I’m really disappointed they’ve been so mute – that they didn’t say, ‘That’s (Brennaman’s) opinion. We don’t necessarily agree with it.’ It really bothers me.”
Is he actually serious? Does he expect Walt Jocketty to apologize for Brennaman? Brennaman is a Hall-of-Fame announcer that doesn’t need anyone else to speak for him, obviously. If he wanted to apologize, he would. But the fact of the matter is, he won’t because he was right all along.
Besides, there could be a reason nobody in the organization has denounced Brennaman’s comments. Perhaps they agree with him?
I doubt that Jocketty or Bob Castellini will dignify him with a response. If they do, it would most likely be a cookie-cutter public relations statement. The Reds’ brass doesn’t need to waste their time with a fool like La Russa.
Come join the misery
The Reds are in the midst of a 1-8 stretch, which includes sweeps at the hands of the Pirates and Indians.
One starting pitcher has been sent to Louisville, while two others have flown back to Cincinnati to be seen by the team doctor. The bullpen has been decimated by both injuries and fatigue.
Dusty Baker has been trying a trio of players in left-field. Neither shortstop is hitting.
To quote Marty Brennaman, “How we lookin’? Not good.”
So, please come join the misery and discuss it all on Twitter! If you are not on the Reds Tweeps roster, let me know in the comments and I will add you.
