Final weekend at GABP for 2011
The Reds may have been out of the race, but that did not take away from the great weekend we had at Great American Ball Park on September 16-17. Over the last few years, we have met some wonderful people at the stadium and through social networking (Twitter/Facebook).
I am proud to call them my friends. Here are some pictures from the final weekend at the GABP.
Reds Season Ticket Holder Block Party
The very cordial Heather and Liz set up a batting practice viewing for members of the Reds Season Ticket Holder Block Party Facebook group. The event took place before the game on September 16, but I am just now getting around to posting some photos. Better late than never, right?

Johnny Bench Night – Part Two
Tonight is Johnny Bench Night at Great American Ball Park. The Reds will unveil a statue of the Hall of Famer and celebrate the accomplishments of baseball’s greatest catcher. Bench will also be at the game to throw out the first pitch.
TRIVIA – Did you know that this isn’t the first Johnny Bench Night in Cincinnati?
On September 17, 1983, my parents took my brother and me to Riverfront Stadium to join 53,786 of our closest friends to honor Bench. It was a night that I will never forget. From the crowd chanting, “JB! JB!” as he sat atop the white #5 convertible to the surreal atmosphere as he hit the final home run of his illustrious career, the entire evening was nothing short of magical.
Tonight, I will bring my wife and kids to GABP and tell the story of that night. It’s a story they have heard a thousand times, but never gets old. The history and ability for these stories to be passed down through generations can only happen with baseball. I can’t wait to se what new memories are made tonight with my family.
Just in case you don’t believe me…
