The Reds had six finalists for Gold Glove Awards, more than any team in Major League Baseball. They didn’t win a single one.
I understand Bronson Arroyo, Zack Cozart, Joey Votto and Drew Stubbs not winning. It’s hard to judge a pitcher since they only take the mound once every five days. This was Cozart’s first full season in the big leagues. Votto missed a lot of time with the knee injury. Stubbs was horrendous at the plate, which shouldn’t matter, but does.
Jay Bruce should have multiple Gold Gloves. He saves runs with his arm. For the most part, teams have stopped trying to even test him.
The fact that the Cubs’ Darwin Barney won over Brandon Phillips is an absolute joke. Phillips is not only the best second baseman in the National League, but the best in all of baseball. I will go as far to say that he is the best second baseman I have ever seen play Major League Baseball.
Major League managers and coaches select the winners for the Gold Glove Award, but are not permitted to vote for their own players. Anyone who didn’t vote for Phillips should be ashamed of themselves. They are either being swayed by a personal bias or are just plain ignorant.
