So long, Mo…
Matt Maloney is no longer a member of the Cincinnati Reds. Mark Sheldon posted that Maloney revealed the news via his Twitter account.
Maloney is one of the good guys. We first met him and his wife, Kalee, at Redsfest in December 2010. My daughter talked to Kalee about fashion while Matt showed my son the proper grip of a circle change. Kalee even traced Matt’s fingers on the ball just in case my son forgot. After Redsfest, the Maloneys and Sam LeCure joined some fans for bowling.
While in Arizona for Spring Training, Matt always made a point to say hello to the kids. He was always willing to take a picture, toss a ball or sign an autograph without hesitation.
The last time we saw Matt was in Toledo while he was with Louisville. He was sitting in the dugout after batting practice and came out to chat with us and say hi to the kids.
It was a rough season for Maloney in 2011, as he spent time in the minors and on the disabled list. Hopefully, a fresh start with a new team will get his career back on track.
We wish Mo nothing but the best!
