Could a beautiful relationship be on the rocks?
The Beatles said, “All you need is love.”
Those five simple words that defined a generation decades ago still hold true today. Whether it be a general loving heart toward your fellow man or the bliss of finding that special someone, love is a wonderful thing.
Few things in this world can top finding your soul mate. However, it can hurt so much more should the relationship go south.
This Week In Baseball had a story about the bond between Bronson Arroyo and Mike Leake. A veteran pitcher taking a rookie under his wing is not uncommon. Neither is a baseball player developing superstitions. The dynamic duo of Arroyo and Leake have taken it a step further with their pre-start ritual.
The night before Leake is scheduled to pitch, the rookie spends the night at Arroyo’s house. Arroyo, an accomplished musician, will serenade Leake to sleep.
Leake has been the Reds’ best starting pitcher this season. He is 5-0, turning in one quality start after another. You could say he was due for a bad outing, and it happened on Thursday against the Giants. Leake was touched up for five runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings.
The Reds came back to win the game, 7-6, allowing Leake to escape with a no-decision.
So, Leake did not lose, but definitely had a bad outing. Will Arroyo continue to serenade his young protege? Will their special relationship prove strong enough to weather this storm?
Only time will tell…
